Barkatullah Constructions is a small setup located at House Number 50 in Moh Sadwarti, right here in Azamgarh. My family has been in this town for a long time, so we know nearly everyone on the street. We started this construction business because we saw a lot of houses that needed fixing or new ones that needed to be built from scratch. It’s not a big fancy company. It’s just us and a few workers who know their way around a trowel and a level. We keep our office right where we live because it’s easier that way. You can usually find us sitting outside in the evenings talking about the next day’s work. The weather in Azamgarh can be really tough, especially the heat in May, but we just start early to get the work done. We don’t use any big words to describe what we do. We just build walls, lay floors, and fix roofs. Sometimes we have to deal with paperwork and permits, which is the part I like the least, but it’s necessary. We get our supplies from the local markets in Sadar because we like to keep the business in the community. If you walk down the lane in Sadwarti, you’ll probably hear us working or see our old truck parked out front. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make sure the buildings in our part of Uttar Pradesh are solid.
