Tausif Kirana

Our shop is tucked away in Abrar Colony, not far from Hamid Colony here in Aurangabad. Being near Station Road means there is a lot of movement around us all the time. I have been running Tausif Kirana for quite some time now, and I know most of the families living in the nearby lanes. The shop is filled with bags of rice, sugar, and all the small things people forget to buy during their big weekly shop. I spend my afternoons sitting on the wooden stool behind the counter, waiting for the school kids to come by for biscuits or candy. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but they are covered with calendars and posters anyway. Managing the stock takes up most of my energy. I have to keep track of what is running low and call the wholesalers. Sometimes the weather in Maharashtra gets very dry and dusty, so I have to wipe down the packets every morning. It is a small business, just enough to keep things going. I like the routine of opening up, weighing out grains for the ladies, and closing the shutters late at night. There is no computer here; I still do all my accounts in a thick register with a blue pen. It works fine for me and I don't see any reason to change it now.
