Shubhlaxmi Steel

Our business, Shubhlaxmi Steel, is based at Heramb 112 in the Jaivishwabharati Society. It’s a bit of a mix here because it’s a residential society but we have our steel operations going on. Handling steel is heavy and loud work. We have stacks of rods and sheets that need to be moved and cut for different orders. The sound of metal hitting metal is something the neighbors have mostly grown used to by now. We try to be careful when the delivery trucks come in so we don't block the residential traffic or the cars too much. Our office is just a small room at the front with a desk and some chairs that have seen better days. It’s a very hands-on job. My clothes usually have some rust or dust on them by the end of the day. We don't have a big marketing team or anyone to answer the phones with a script. You just call and talk to one of us directly. The work is physically tiring, especially when the weather is humid. We spend a lot of time measuring and double-checking weights before things go out. The scale we use is old but it’s still very accurate. Sometimes we sit outside on the steps during a break just to get some fresh air and watch the street. It’s a small operation but we keep busy enough. The society is quiet except for our corner where the steel gets loaded. We just take it day by day.
