Mazhar Kirana And General is tucked into Rahul Nagar in the Sadat Nagar area. We're close to Station Road, so it's always a bit noisy. I've been working here since I was much younger. The shop is filled with the smell of loose spices and coffee powder. We have big sacks of rice and wheat sitting on the floor. It takes a lot of strength to move them around. My brother helps out when he can. We mostly serve the people who live in the surrounding houses. They come in for their monthly rations or just a single egg. I like the way the light comes through the front door in the afternoon. It’s a small space, so we have to use every inch. Shelves go all the way to the ceiling. I use a long stick to reach the stuff at the top. Sometimes I drop things, which is annoying. We don't use any fancy computer systems here. Everything is done by hand. I know where every jar and packet is located. Life in Aurangabad moves at its own pace. We open early before the heat gets too bad. By the end of the day, I'm tired, but the shop is ready for tomorrow. It's just a regular kirana store doing its thing for the neighborhood. I hope to get the front shutter painted next month if I have time. The neighbors often stop to talk about their kids or the high prices.
