Ultratech Cement Limited

The Arakkonam Cement Works is located right in Chetteri Village, and that’s where we spend our days at Ultratech Cement Limited. It’s an industrial site, so it’s not exactly the quietest place to work. You get used to the constant hum of the machinery and the sight of dust settling on everything after a while. Chetteri Village is a small place, and the works provide a lot of the activity around here. We have people coming in for different shifts at all hours of the day and night. It’s a big operation, but when you’re on the ground, it feels more like a community of workers just trying to get through the day’s tasks. We don't spend much time in fancy meetings; most of our communication happens over the noise of the plant or in the small break areas. The sun can be really unforgiving out here in Arakkonam, and we all drink a lot of water to keep going during the long afternoons. We’ve been part of this village’s landscape for a long time now. The guys who work here mostly live nearby, so we all know each other’s families and what’s going on in the neighborhood. It’s hard work and it’s messy, but there’s a certain rhythm to it that you start to appreciate. We aren't here to make things look pretty; we’re just here to do the work and make sure the cement gets out the gate.
