At J Pee Packs, we operate out of Plot No. 267. It’s a pretty simple setup we’ve got here. We deal with packing materials, so the whole place is usually filled with the smell of cardboard and the sound of tape dispensers being pulled. It’s a lot of cutting, folding, and stacking. We have piles of different sized boxes taking up most of the floor space, leaving just enough room for us to walk between the aisles. Our team is small, mostly just a handful of us who’ve been doing this for years. We don’t really have a formal way of doing things; we just see what orders are in for the day and start packing. The morning starts with clearing out the scraps from the day before and getting the cutting tables ready. Sometimes we get a rush order that means we’re all working late into the evening, fueled by tea and some snacks from the shop down the road. The plot itself is nothing special to look at, just a concrete building with a large rolling shutter. We keep it open during the day to let some light in, as the bulbs inside are a bit dim. When it’s busy, you can barely hear yourself think over the noise of the packing machines, but when it’s slow, it’s actually quite peaceful here. We have an old dog that hangs around the entrance of Plot 267 most afternoons, just looking for a bit of shade. It's a plain life, but we like the routine.
