Govt. Degree College Boys Anantnag Kashmir

Up here in Anantnag, the Government Degree College for Boys is a major part of the town. We are located right in the 192101 zip code area, and the campus is quite large compared to some of the other buildings around here. Because we are in Kashmir, the seasons really dictate how we run things. In the winter, we all huddle around the heaters and try to keep the pipes from freezing, while in the summer, the grounds are actually quite beautiful. It’s a college for boys, so it can get pretty rowdy during the breaks when everyone is out in the common areas. We have students coming in from all the nearby villages, some of them traveling a long way every morning. The staff here is a mix of locals and people who have moved here for work. We spend our days dealing with university paperwork, organizing exams, and making sure the library stays in order. It’s a lot of administrative work that people don’t always see. The buildings are solid and have that old government style to them—functional and sturdy. We drink a lot of tea while we discuss the day's issues in the staff room. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s an important one for the young men in this region. We’re just a regular government college trying to do our job day in and day out in the middle of Anantnag. We have been here for the community for years and we just keep going.
