Our office is at D-40, which is right inside the AP Cement Works in Bhogasamudram. It is a very large site in the Tadipatri area. Anantapur can be a very dry and rocky place to live. The cement plant is the main landmark around here. We work in the office section of the complex. It is mostly made up of grey buildings and long, dusty roads that connect everything. We handle the local details for Ultratech Cement. Every day follows a pretty similar pattern. We check the dispatch schedules and talk to the workers down in the plant. The heat can get to be quite a lot, so we always keep our water bottles full. Our desks are a bit messy with old manuals and big registers that we have to fill out. It is a strictly functional place. We are not here to look professional or polished. We are just here to make sure the cement is moving out to the customers on time. There is a small cafeteria where we all go to eat our lunch. The food is okay, usually just local Andhra style dishes. We have been a part of this community for a long time. Everyone at the plant knows everyone else by name. It feels more like a tiny town than just a place of work. We get the job done and try to stay cool when the afternoon sun is at its hottest.
