Vikram Book Emporium

Vikram Book Emporium is located at 4-3-256 on Mahatma Gandhi Road. Being so close to the Municipal Office means there is always something happening outside the front door. We see people rushing by with files and papers all day long. Inside the shop, it’s a bit different. It is mostly quiet until someone comes in looking for a specific register or a notebook. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, and sometimes we have to use the old metal ladder to reach the top ones. It’s a bit wobbly, so we have to be careful not to tip over. The floors are stone and they stay relatively cool, which is nice during the hotter months when the road outside feels like it is melting. We don't have a big sign or anything flashy to catch the eye. Usually, we are just busy unpacking boxes that arrive from the distributors. The tape on the boxes makes a loud ripping sound that echoes through the room. There is a lot of paper everywhere, and sometimes we lose track of time just organizing the different sections by hand. The tea man comes by twice a day, and we usually take a break then to sit on the steps. The traffic noise from MG Road never really stops, but after a while, you just stop hearing it. It’s a simple setup we have here near the office, just doing what needs to be done to keep the shelves filled and the shop running every day.
