Vignesh Computer Services is right on the Main Road in Yellamanchili. It’s a busy spot, and since we are on the ground floor, we see everything that happens on the street. People drop in all the time with laptops that won’t turn on or phones with cracked screens. The shop is filled with the smell of solder and old plastic. We have shelves piled high with spare parts, some of which we’ve had for years and probably don’t need anymore. It’s a bit messy, but I know exactly where the small screwdrivers are kept. The Main Road is always noisy with buses and bikes passing by, and the dust from the road covers the display cases every single day. We spend most of our time hunched over a workbench under a bright light. It’s slow work sometimes, especially when a part is hard to find. We don’t have a website or any fancy marketing; most people just walk in because they saw our sign or a friend told them we could help. We usually have the radio playing in the background to drown out the traffic. Yellamanchili is a small enough town that you see the same faces every week. We try to be honest about how long a repair will take, even if it’s bad news. Some days are just spent cleaning out fans and re-installing software for people who forgot their passwords. It’s just a regular local shop doing what we can with the tools we have.
