Syal Karyana Store

Our shop is located on Sultanwind Road over in the Habib Pura area. It is shop number 5031, which is easy enough to spot if you are looking. We deal in karyana items, so that means a lot of lentils, rice, spices, and the everyday groceries that families in Amritsar use. The shop has been a part of this street for a long time. It is not a modern supermarket or anything like that. We have sacks of grain and jars of different things everywhere. Sometimes the floor gets a little dusty from the bags, but that is just how a grocery store works. We spend a lot of time weighing out portions for people who only want a little bit of something. The traffic on Sultanwind Road can be loud during the day but we are used to it by now. It is just me and a couple of helpers most of the time. We try to keep the shelves stocked, though sometimes we run out of the popular brands faster than expected. We write everything down in the books and keep an eye on the door. People from Habib Pura stop by on their way home from work to pick up milk or bread. It is a steady rhythm of life here. We do not have fancy lights or displays, just the basic stuff that every kitchen needs to keep going. The shutters go up at seven and we do not stop until late.
