Sri Balammal Ricemill

We’ve been running Sri Balammal Ricemill for quite some time now, right here in Village Chabba. If you know the area, we’re located pretty close to Sangrana Sahib. It gets quite busy on the Tarn Taran Road, especially during the harvest seasons when trucks start lining up. The mill itself is a noisy place, and there’s always a bit of dust in the air from the husks, but that’s just how it goes when you’re processing rice every day. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. It's mostly just us working through the piles of grain and making sure the machinery stays in good shape so we don’t have to stop. Sometimes the heat is a real bother, but we just keep the fans going and get through the load. Most people around here know where we are because of the landmark. We usually start early in the morning before the sun gets too high. It's a simple operation, really. We handle the local stock and see it through the hullers. Sometimes the power goes out, which is a pain, but we manage. We aren’t trying to be the biggest mill around, just trying to keep things moving steadily. The neighbors are mostly other local businesses and farms. It’s a practical life, working with what the land gives us. We just focus on the day’s work and try to get home before it gets too dark.
