Down at 288-a Police Lane, that’s where you will find Bawa Woollen & Spinning Mills Ltd. It is an old building and you can tell it has seen a lot of years. We do a lot of spinning here. The wool comes in and goes through the machines until it’s ready for whatever comes next. It’s loud inside. You have to shout a bit if you want to be heard over the hum of the equipment. We don’t really do any big marketing stuff. People know where we are if they need us. The gate is usually open early in the morning. We have workers who have been with us for decades and they know the machines better than anyone else. Sometimes a part breaks and we have to wait a while to get it fixed, but we usually find a way to keep things moving. The floor is concrete and there are bags of raw material piled up in the corners. It smells like wool and oil, which is something you get used to after about five minutes. Police Lane is a quiet enough area until the shift changes and everyone heads out at once. We aren't trying to be the biggest mill around, just keeping the gears turning and getting the product out to the people who buy it. It's hard work and it gets dusty, but it is what we do every day. We just stay focused on the task at hand.
