The play school is right at the 6th Milestone along the Delhi-Tijara Highway in Jharkhera. Being near the highway means there is always the sound of trucks and cars passing by, but we have a sturdy wall to keep the little ones safe inside. It’s a busy spot in Alwar, and you can’t really miss the building if you are driving toward Tijara. Inside, the rooms are painted with different colors, though some of the paint is starting to chip in the corners where the kids play. We have a lot of plastic toys, some small slides, and mats spread out on the floor for nap time. The kids arrive in the morning, usually dropped off by their parents on bikes or in small vans. It’s a loud place, full of the sounds of crying, laughing, and children singing rhymes. We don't have a big corporate setup, just a few of us looking after the toddlers and making sure they eat their snacks. The yard has a bit of sand and some swings that have been used by many groups of children over the years. When it rains, we have to move everything inside quickly because the ground gets muddy fast. It’s a lot of work cleaning up spills and keeping track of everyone’s water bottles, but it’s a living. We just keep things moving along day by day, making sure the kids have a place to stay while their parents are at work.
