Mary Ward English Medium School

Our school is located in Puthenvelikara, right in the Puthenveli area. It’s called Mary Ward English Medium School. If you’re looking for us, we’re the building with the kids always hanging around the front gate before the first bell rings in the morning. It’s a local place, mostly serving the families who live within walking distance. We teach in English, which is what the name says, and we try to keep the classrooms decent and the textbooks updated when the budget allows. The teachers here live mostly in the neighborhood, so they know the kids’ parents and see them at the market on weekends. It’s that kind of environment where everyone knows each other. We have the basic stuff—blackboards, some wooden benches, and a small area where the kids play during their breaks. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, so we keep the ceiling fans going as much as the power supply allows. We aren't doing anything fancy or revolutionary. We just follow the curriculum and make sure the students know how to read and write well. Sometimes the kids get a bit rowdy in the hallways, but that's just how it is with a school full of children. We have our staff meetings, handle the piles of paperwork, and try to keep the place running as smoothly as we can. It’s a simple setup, but it works for the people here in Puthenvelikara. We just open the doors and get to work.
