Our company, Kaklaason Farmer Producer Company Limited, is located up in Almora, specifically in the Bhikhiyasen area. We operate out of Puran Singh’s place, he’s the son of Kishan Singhtani. Being up in the hills means things move a bit differently here than they do in the plains. The air is better, but the transport can be a real headache sometimes. We focus on the local farmers around Bhikhiyasen and try to keep everything running as it should. It’s a small group of us. We don’t have any big corporate goals; we just want to make sure the work gets done and everyone is treated fair. Puran spends a lot of time on the phone or meeting people who stop by the house. We have a lot of notebooks filled with details about the crops and the seasons. It’s not a high-tech operation by any means. We use what we have and make it work. The winters can be tough, and sometimes we have to slow down when the snow comes, but we always pick back up. It’s a beautiful place to live and work, even if it is a bit isolated.
