Up in the hills of Tehsil-Syalde, specifically in the village and post of Bisrakhet, you can find Chokot Patti Farmers Producer Company Limited. We are located at the house of Ranjeet Singh. It’s a long way from the big cities, and that’s just how we like it. The air is clear, but the work is hard. Being a producer company means we are all in this together, trying to make the most of the small plots of land we have in the mountains. Ranjeet Singh’s place is the central point where everyone gathers to talk about the season. Whether it’s talking about the seeds for the next crop or how to get the vegetables down the mountain roads, there’s always something to discuss. The terrain around Bisrakhet is steep, so farming here isn't like farming on the plains. You have to work with the land, not against it. We spend a lot of time outdoors, obviously. When the monsoon hits, things get a bit tricky with the mud and the paths, but we’ve lived here our whole lives so we know how to manage. We don’t have much use for corporate titles or big speeches. We just want to make sure the farmers in our patti get what they need to keep going. It’s a simple life, focused on the soil and the seasons, and we’re happy to be doing it right here in Syalde. There's always work to be done in the fields.
