Persian Metal

Our place, Persian Metal, is right on the National Highway at Pulliman Junction in Puthiyakavu. Being number 47 on this stretch means we see a lot of trucks and cars passing by every single minute. It is a very convenient spot for people to drop off or pick up metal supplies without having to go deep into the city. The noise from the highway is constant, but you get used to it after a week or so. We have a fairly large yard where we keep the heavier items. The sun can be quite brutal out here on the road, so we spend a lot of time under the tin roof of the main shed. We are just a small group of people working here, mostly family and a couple of guys from the village. We don't have any fancy computer systems for the inventory; we mostly just remember where everything is or write it down in a big book. People stop by on their way to other towns and we help them load up their vehicles. Sometimes the rain comes down so hard we have to stop work because you can't see the road anymore. That is just how life is in this part of Kerala. We keep the gate open from dawn until dusk and just take things one day at a time. It’s a lot of heavy lifting but it’s what we know.
