Vinod General Store

Vinod General Store is located right by the New Rang JI Temple in Pushkar which means we see a lot of different people every day. Some are just passing through to visit the temple and others live right around the corner. We keep things like cold drinks, biscuits, and puja items on the shelves. The shop gets quite dusty because of all the traffic outside so cleaning is a never-ending job for us. It isn't a fancy setup or anything like that. We just have our wooden counters and the metal racks for the chips and snacks. Sometimes the electricity goes out and it gets really hot inside but we keep the doors open for the breeze. Dealing with the change is always a bit of a headache especially when everyone has big notes. We try to keep enough small coins in the drawer. It’s mostly just me or one of the boys handling the customers. You have to be quick when it gets crowded. We get our supplies from the city and sometimes the bags of rice are heavy to move around. It feels like there is always something to do like restacking the soaps or counting the remaining packets of tobacco. We just keep the place going from morning until the sun goes down and the temple lights come on. It is just a regular local shop trying to stay busy and help people get their groceries for the day.
