Shubham General Store

Shubham General Store is right there on Foy Sagar Road, very close to the Kali Ka Mandir. Because of the temple, we get a lot of people stopping by on their way to pray. They usually want incense sticks, coconuts, or small packets of sweets. But we are a general store first, so we carry all the regular household items too. I spend most of my day standing near the door, watching the traffic go by on Foy Sagar Road. It’s a noisy street with plenty of scooters and rickshaws. The shop is quite deep, so the back stays a bit dark even during the day. We’ve got bags of grain stacked in the corner and rows of cooking oil tins. My son helps with the heavy lifting because my back isn't what it used to be. We don't use any plastic bags anymore, so people usually bring their own cloth bags or we wrap things in old newspapers. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us and our customers. Sometimes the cows from the street come right up to the doorstep, and we have to gently shoo them away. It’s just a normal part of the day here. We keep our prices fair and try to stay stocked up on the basics that every kitchen needs. It is just a plain, honest shop for the local community.
