Sant Kanwarram General Store

Sant Kanwarram General Store is our little shop over in Ajay Nagar, right on the Bhagwan Ganj Ajay Nagar Road. It’s been in the family for a while now. I usually get here early to sweep the front step before the sun gets too hot. The shop isn't very big, so we have to stack things pretty high. We carry the usual things like rice, lentils, various oils, and cleaning supplies for the house. The road outside can get quite busy with people heading to work, so we see a lot of foot traffic in the mornings. I have a couple of old fans that don't do much against the heat, but they keep the air moving a little. We have these big glass jars on the counter filled with different kinds of biscuits and hard candies. The kids from the local school always stop by in the afternoon to spend their pocket change. I try to keep the shelves organized, but it’s hard when new boxes arrive and there’s nowhere to put them. My nephew helps out on the weekends when I need to step away for a bit. We don’t do any advertising or anything like that. People just know we’re here. Sometimes we run out of milk or bread before the end of the day, but that’s just how it goes. I spend most of my day sitting on a wooden chair behind the counter, greeting the regulars and bagging up their groceries. It’s a quiet, steady life here.
