Saini General Store

You can find Saini General Store near the Chungi Chowki on Tara Garh Road, not far from Daulat Bagh. This part of town gets quite a few people heading towards Tara Garh, so we see a lot of different faces. We keep a good stock of incense and small items people might need for their trip up the hill. Of course, we also have all the regular household stuff for the people living nearby. The shop is quite deep, and it gets a bit dark towards the back where we keep the heavy sacks of grain. I’ve worked here for years and I know every creak in the floorboards. We don’t have fancy uniforms or anything; I just wear what I have. It’s a busy spot, especially in the evenings when everyone is getting off work and remembers they need milk or matches. I usually have the radio playing some old songs in the background. It helps pass the time when things are slow. We don't use a lot of technology, just a simple calculator for the totals. Sometimes the kids from the school nearby come in for candy and they make a lot of noise, but it keeps the place feeling alive. We just try to be helpful and keep the shelves filled with the things people actually use every day. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from dawn till dusk. We have some heavy metal bins for the flour and rice to keep the pests out. I’ve lived in this area my whole life and I know most of the families by name.
