My name is Rupesh Kumar and I have my place in the Main Market of Ashaganj. It’s right where all the action is. Ashaganj is a lively area, especially in the mornings when everyone is out doing their shopping. I’ve been here for years. The shop isn't anything special to look at, but it gets the job done. I spend most of my time behind the counter. You see everyone from the neighborhood eventually if you stay in one spot long enough. The Main Market can be loud with all the vendors calling out. I like the energy of it. Sometimes it gets dusty and the heat in the summer is something else. We just keep the fan going and keep working. I handle a bit of everything here. It’s a general store feel. My family helps out sometimes when it gets really busy. We know most of the people who walk through the door. It’s not just about selling things; it’s about being part of the street. I don't use a computer for everything; I still like my notebook for keeping track of some stuff. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things but it works for me. Ashaganj is a good place to be. I don't see myself moving anywhere else. It’s home. The morning tea from the stall across the road is the highlight of my day before the rush starts. I usually have to clear some boxes off the chairs if someone wants to sit for a minute.
