Ramchandra Halwai

Ramchandra Halwai is our shop in Vaishali Nagar. It’s not the biggest place, but it serves our purpose well enough. We have a routine that we’ve followed for years. We get in early, clean the counters, and start the prep work. Vaishali Nagar has changed quite a bit since we first opened, with more shops and more people everywhere. We try to stay focused on our own work despite all the noise outside. We make a variety of traditional items. We don’t use any big fancy words to describe what we do. It’s just food. We don't have a marketing plan or any glossy brochures. Most of our customers come because they live nearby or their parents used to buy from us. We handle the cash ourselves and we don't use any of those complicated computer systems. It’s all written down in a ledger at the end of the day. Sometimes the light in the shop is a bit dim, but we know where everything is. We don't spend much on advertising because we think if the food is okay, people will come back. It’s a lot of standing and a lot of heat from the stoves, but it’s a living. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a polished look; we just want to run our shop in Vaishali Nagar peacefully. It is hard work but it is what we know. We stay open until the evening rush is over and then we head home to rest.
