Raju Sweet Mart is tucked away in Naya Bazar on Dargah Road. This is a very old part of town, and the lanes are quite narrow and crowded. You can barely fit a car through here sometimes. Our shop has been in this spot for quite some time now. It’s a small place, and it’s always a bit dark inside because the buildings around us are so tall and close together. We have to keep the lights on even during the day. We don’t have a lot of space, so most of the cooking happens in a tiny area at the back. It’s amazing how much we can produce in such a small kitchen. We mostly sell to the local people who live in the apartments above the shops or the pilgrims walking down to the Dargah. We have a few regular items that we make every single day without fail. The glass in our display case is a bit scratched up from years of use, but you can still see what’s inside. We don’t really do any marketing or have a website or anything like that. People just know we are here. Sometimes we sit on the stools outside when it’s quiet and just watch the people go by. It’s a simple life, and the work is hard on the back, but we are used to it by now. We just open up and do our best.
