Raj General Store

Raj General Store is on Ajay Nagar Road in the Ajay Nagar area and it’s a busy little place. We have a lot of houses around us so we mostly sell groceries like dal, rice, and cooking oil. There are always kids coming in for those small packets of chips or some chocolate. The shelves are a bit disorganized because we are always moving things around to make room for new stock. We have a big deep freezer for the milk and curd which takes up a lot of space. Sometimes the lid sticks and it’s a pain to open. The walls are covered in old calendars and some posters that have been there forever. We don't have any fancy signs or lights outside. People just know we are here. It gets really crowded in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work and realizes they need something for dinner. We have to work fast to keep the line moving. My hands are usually dusty from handling the flour bags or the charcoal. We don't use any fancy bags just simple plastic ones or people bring their own cloth bags. It’s a lot of long hours and my back usually aches by the time we lock up at night. But we are used to the routine and it is good to be a part of the neighborhood. We just try to have what people ask for.
