Priya General Store

Being near Agra Gate means Priya General Store is always busy with people passing by. It’s a small place, but it keeps us busy from sunup to sundown. Most of the time, I’m the one sitting there, though my brother helps out when it gets crowded. We sell all the usual things, from matches to biscuits and everything in between. The building is older, so the walls have some cracks and the paint is peeling a bit in the corners, but it works for us. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are inside at once. I try to remember where everything is hidden behind the counter. Sometimes customers have to wait a minute while I dig something out from the bottom shelf. It gets quite hot in the summer because the shop faces the sun, but we have a small fan that helps a little. We don’t really advertise or do anything like that, because people just know we are here. It’s a simple business. We get our stock from the wholesale market every few days. Sometimes the bags are heavy and my back hurts, but that is part of the job. Most of our customers live right here in the old part of town. We just try to keep the shelves full and the shop open for as long as we can every day.
