Prakash General Store

Prakash General Store is located on Foy Sagar Road in the Shiv Nagar neighborhood. It’s a straightforward kind of place where we sell stuff that people actually use every day. We have a lot of big plastic jars on the front counter filled with different types of candy and chewing gum. Behind that, the shelves go all the way up to the ceiling with things like cooking oil, spices, and cleaning supplies. We have to use a long stick with a hook on the end to get things down from the top. It’s a bit of a trick to not drop anything. The floor is covered in old linoleum that’s peeling a bit at the edges. We open up early and stay open until late because people always seem to run out of milk or matches at odd hours. The street outside is usually busy with people going to work or coming home. We have a small radio that plays the news and sometimes we just sit and listen to it when the shop is empty. There’s a lot of dust that comes in from the road, so we’re always wiping down the jars and the counter. We don't have any big advertisements or bright lights. It’s just a simple store where you can get what you need without any fuss. We’ve been here in Shiv Nagar for a long time and we know the rhythms of the street.
