Manoj General Store

Manoj General Store is located on Ramble Road inside Ramdwara Gali and it is a typical neighborhood shop. The street is a bit narrow so the delivery trucks have a hard time getting close to the door. We have to carry the heavy sacks of rice and flour by hand from the corner. It is a workout every time a new shipment comes in. We sell a lot of small things like matches, cigarettes, and individual biscuits. The shop has been in the same spot for years and the floor is worn down in the places where people stand the most. We know exactly who wants what as soon as they walk in the door. Sometimes we sit on a plastic chair near the entrance when it is quiet and watch the neighbors go about their day. We keep the ledger on a small wooden desk in the corner. It’s a bit messy with papers and pens everywhere. The ceiling fan is old and makes a clicking sound but we don't really notice it anymore. We try to keep the prices fair because we know everyone in the area. Some days the heat is just too much and we close the shutters for a few hours in the afternoon to take a nap. We open back up when it gets cooler and stay until late in the evening when the last few people come for their milk.
