Manmohan General Store

Our shop, Manmohan General Store, sits right at Laxmi Chowk in Naya Bazar. It's a busy corner where everyone seems to meet up eventually. If you stand outside for five minutes, you'll see half the neighborhood pass by on their bikes. We keep a bit of everything here because you never know what someone might need at the last minute for their kitchen or home. From tea leaves to washing powder and notebooks, the racks are pretty full. Naya Bazar is one of those places that stays active from early morning until late at night. Laxmi Chowk is always a bit chaotic with the scooters and the rickshaws blowing their horns, but we like the energy. Inside the store, things are a bit more organized, though it gets tight when we have more than three customers at once. We spend a lot of time weighing out sugar or counting change from the wooden drawer. It’s a straightforward business. We don't go in for big advertisements or anything like that. People know us because we’ve been here at the Chowk for a long time. We talk to our customers about their families and the local news while we pack their bags in newspaper or plastic. The floor is a bit worn down from all the feet walking in and out, but that’s just how a busy shop should look. It’s a local place for local people. We just keep the doors open and make sure we have the daily essentials ready on the shelves.
