Manish General Store

I open up the shop early every morning here on Masuda Beawar Road. The sun is usually just coming up and the road starts getting busy with trucks and people going to work. Manish General Store has been sitting right here for a good while now. I spend a lot of my time just reorganizing the packets of biscuits and the soaps on the wooden shelves. It gets a bit dusty because of the traffic outside, so there is always some cleaning to do with an old cloth. People from around here stop by for their daily needs, maybe some sugar or a bit of tea. I know most of their faces by now. Sometimes the fan in the corner makes a clicking sound that drives me a bit crazy, but you get used to it. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it gets hot outside. We keep a lot of stuff crammed into the back, so finding things sometimes takes a minute if it's not a regular item. I don’t really have a big staff, it’s mostly just me or my brother sitting here behind the counter. We use an old ledger to keep track of some things, though everything is mostly cash. The neighborhood has changed some over the years, but the shop stays pretty much the same. It’s a simple life, just handing out change and making sure we don't run out of salt or cooking oil before the next delivery comes.
