Mahalaxmi Petha Bhandar

Mahalaxmi Petha Bhandar is our sweet shop over by Alwar Gate in the Cavandus Pura area. Petha is what we do, and we have been doing it for a long time. If you walk near our place in Cavandus Pura, you can usually smell the sugar and the cooking. It is a very traditional business. We do not have fancy packaging or a big website. People just know that if they want good petha, they come to Alwar Gate. The shop is often busy, especially during the festival times when everyone wants sweets for their families. We spend most of our mornings preparing the batches and the afternoons selling them. It is sticky work and the kitchen stays hot, but we are used to it. The neighbors are good people and they often stop in for a chat. We have different kinds of petha, some dry and some syrupy. We keep it all in big containers. The building is old, like most of the ones in this part of town, but it works for us. We do not do much advertising. People find us because their parents or grandparents bought from us. It is a family tradition that we are proud to keep going here in Cavandus Pura. We just try to make a good product that people enjoy eating.
