J. K. Marble

J. K. Marble is situated right in the Tunkra Road Industrial Area. It’s pretty much what you’d expect from a place like this—lots of dust, heavy lifting, and the sound of saws cutting through stone. We spend our days out in the yard or in the cutting shed. It’s not the kind of place where you’d want to wear your best clothes. Everything gets covered in that fine white marble dust eventually. We’ve been at this for a long time. We know how to look at a block and tell how it’s going to break. It’s more of a feel than a science. The yard is filled with slabs of all different sizes. Some have been there a while, others go out as soon as they are cut. We don't have a big marketing team. Most of our work comes from people who just know we are here. It’s a bit of a rough-and-tumble environment, but we get the job done. The sun beats down on the stone, and in the winter, the water we use for cutting is freezing cold. But we’ve got a good group of workers who don't complain much. We just keep the machines running and the marble moving. It’s a simple life, focused on the stone and nothing else. Sometimes the forklift breaks down and we have to figure it out ourselves. We don't mind the hard work. It's just what we know how to do. The industrial area is loud, but it feels like home to us.
