Kapil General Store

Kapil General Store is situated out on the Nasirabad Beawar Road in Bewerja. Being on a main road like this means we get a lot of trucks and cars passing by at all hours. We keep a lot of snacks and cold drinks because people are usually thirsty when they stop. We also have the usual household stuff for the families who live nearby like washing powder and cooking spices. The wind blows a lot of dust from the highway so we are always wiping down the counter. It’s a simple building with a tin roof that gets quite loud when it rains. We have to move the bags of grain away from the door if it looks like a storm is coming. Sometimes the internet for the phone payments is slow and it makes the customers impatient. We try to keep a bit of everything because there aren't many other shops close by. It’s just me and my brother most of the time and we take turns eating lunch in the back room. The shelves are getting old and they sag a bit under the weight of the heavy oil tins. We spend our evenings checking what needs to be bought from the wholesale market the next morning. It isn't a glamorous job but it keeps us busy and we get to talk to a lot of interesting travelers. We just keep the doors open and see who comes in next.
