Kamlesh Sweets

The shop is right where Srinagar Road meets Taragarh Road, so there is always something going on outside our door. It’s a good spot because people are always passing through on their way somewhere else. We open up the shutters early when the air is still a bit cool. Most of the time, we are just in the back working on the milk sweets or getting the samosas ready for the afternoon crowd. It gets hot near the big kadhais, especially in the summer months, but that is part of the job. We don’t do any big advertising or anything like that. People know where we are and they know what we have on the counter. We see kids coming in after school looking for something sweet, and then later on, the older men come by to chat and pick up snacks for home. Sometimes we run out of things faster than we expected, and we just have to tell people to wait for the next batch. It’s just us running the place, so things move at their own pace. We’ve seen the roads change over the years, but our little corner remains pretty much the same. We just focus on getting the work done and making sure the trays are full for whoever walks in. It's a simple life here on the junction, watching the traffic go by while we pack up boxes of laddoos and mix.
