We are set up at Khasra No- 24013/1 on Kishangarh Road, right near the Makrana Highway. Being so close to the highway means there is always noise and people passing by at all hours. We have a good amount of space here to keep our stone, and the location makes it easy for the big trucks to pull in and out without too much trouble. I spend my days out in the sun mostly, showing people the different piles of slabs we have gathered. The wind blows the dust around from the highway, so we are always cleaning things off so people can see the real color of the marble. It is hard work and the days are long, especially in the summer months when the heat is coming off the ground. We don't have any fancy signs or big marketing plans. We just put our stone out where people can see it and talk to them when they stop their cars. Sometimes someone is looking for a whole truckload and other times they just want a small piece for a doorstep. We treat them all the same because a customer is a customer. It is a straightforward way to make a living, and being out here by the highway keeps us connected to everything that is moving through the area. We just keep our heads down and wait for the next car to pull over.
