Hema Sweet Store

Hema Sweet Store is situated right in Dhan Mandi. Since this is a grain market area, things start very early here. The farmers and traders are out and about while most of the city is still sleeping. We have to be ready for them when they need a break. Our shop is a practical place. We don't have many chairs or tables because people are usually on the move. They grab what they need and head back to their business in the Mandi. The workspace in the back is where we spend the most time. It’s hot and the work is heavy, especially when we are making large batches for the day. We don't use any slick marketing or brochures to tell people who we are. They see us every day, and they know what we offer. The building is older, with high ceilings and thick walls that help a bit with the heat during the summer months. We keep our counters wiped and our trays organized as best as we can. Sometimes the dust from the market gets in, so we are always cleaning. It’s a cycle of making, selling, and tidying up. We don't think of ourselves as anything special. We are just a small business trying to keep up with the fast pace of Dhan Mandi. When the trucks start leaving in the evening, we start winding down too. It’s a lot of hours on our feet, but that is the nature of this work.
