Hanuman General Store

Living and working in Adarsh Nagar is quiet most of the time. My shop, Hanuman General Store, has been here for years, sitting right on the street where everyone walks their kids to school. I open up before the sun gets too high because that is when people want their milk and bread. The shelves are packed with everything from toothbrushes to bags of flour. It is a lot of work keeping track of what is running low. I don't use any fancy computer systems, just a notebook and my memory mostly. Customers come in and we talk about their families or what is happening in the neighborhood. It feels like a small community inside these walls. Sometimes the fans don't work well enough when the heat hits, so we just prop the door open and hope for a breeze. Adarsh Nagar is a good place to be. I see the same faces every single day. The kids know where the candy jars are kept, and they usually have a coin ready. I spend my afternoons restacking the heavy sacks of grain and making sure the jars are wiped down. It is a simple routine, but it keeps me busy from morning until the stars come out. I never really thought about doing anything else. It is just about being here for the people who live nearby and making sure they have what they need for dinner.
