H M General Store

H M General Store is situated on Ajay Nagar Beawar Road, right next to the Police Chowki. It’s a very busy location because of all the traffic moving between the different parts of the city. We get all sorts of customers, from police officers to truck drivers and local residents. The shop is small and packed with all kinds of goods, from mobile top-up cards and batteries to bread and eggs. Because the road is so busy, there’s always a lot of dust coming in, so I spend a good part of my afternoon with a duster in my hand. The noise from the traffic is constant, but you get used to it after a while. I have a small bench outside where people can sit for a minute while they wait for their bus or finish a cold drink. The interior is a bit dark because we only have one small window, but the light over the counter helps. I keep a close eye on the stock levels because we can sell out of things like bottled water very quickly on hot days. My brother helps me with the accounts in the evenings, usually sitting on a plastic crate in the corner. We don't have a big corporate plan or anything like that. We just try to keep the shop open and the shelves stocked with whatever the people passing by might need. It’s hard work, but being right by the chowki makes the whole place feel safe.
