About Gupta Misthan Bhandar – Food & Beverages in Ajmer
We are located right where Nasirabad Road meets Balupura Road. It’s a good spot for a shop like Gupta Misthan Bhandar. There’s always someone passing by the door. We open up early because the laborers and office workers start their day then. They want something to eat before they get on with their business. We don't do anything complicated. It’s just us and the sweets. The kitchen is small but we make it work. We have these large bowls for mixing everything by hand. My hands are usually covered in flour or sugar by nine in the morning. We don't use machines for much; we do it by hand mostly. It takes longer but it’s how we learned to do it from the older ones. The shop doesn’t have much in the way of decoration. Just some shelves and the display cases. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to use flashlights until it comes back. It makes things interesting. The traffic outside can get loud, especially with the buses grinding their gears. You get used to the noise after a while. We talk to the people who come in, ask about their families, that kind of thing. It’s a local place. We don’t try to be something we’re not. We just make the food and sell it to whoever walks through the door. Then we do it again the next day. It’s how we make our living.
