Garib Nawaj Sweets

Garib Nawaj Sweets is located over in the Dhola Bhatta area. It’s a local neighborhood and we’ve been here for several years. The shop isn't very large, so things can get a bit cramped when more than three people come in at once. We keep a few chairs out front for people who want to sit for a minute, but most just grab what they need and go. My brother and I take turns at the counter. We usually start the day around six in the morning to get things ready before the sun gets too high. There is always plenty to do, like checking the ingredients and making sure the trays are filled. We don't really use any fancy recipes, just the ones we learned from the older folks in our family. The shop stays busy during the mornings when people are heading to work. Dhola Bhatta is a good place to be because everyone knows each other. If someone needs something special for a wedding or a small party, they just come by and tell us a few days early. We don't have a computer or anything, just a notebook where we write down what needs to be done. It’s a straightforward way of working. Sometimes we run out of things early, and we just tell people to come back the next day. That is just the way it works for us. We just stay open and keep the shelves ready for whoever comes by.
