Ganesh General Store

Out here in Silora Madanganj, Ganesh General Store is where many of the local workers come to get their supplies. The area is quite industrial, so there’s always a lot of heavy trucks moving around and kicking up grit. I spend a good portion of my morning wiping down the counters and the plastic jars because everything gets covered in a thin layer of grey dust so quickly. I sell a lot of the basics like big bags of flour, cooking oil, and loose tea leaves. It’s a practical kind of shop with no nonsense. I keep a big earthen pot of cool water in the corner for anyone who is thirsty, which is a big help during the summer months when the heat is really bad. My father started this place years ago and not much has changed since then. The wooden counter is worn smooth in the spots where people lean their elbows while waiting for their bill. I write everything down in a small notebook so I don't forget what needs to be ordered for the next week. It can be a bit lonely during the middle of the day when everyone is at work, but it picks up again in the evening. I usually just sit and listen to the cricket commentary on my phone when it’s quiet. It’s a simple business and it provides what the people around here need for their homes.
