Daga General Store

I have been running Daga General Store for quite some time now. We are tucked away near Sarwari Gate at Pinari Chowk in the Silora area of Kishangarh. It is a traditional part of town with narrow lanes and lots of history. My shop is small and filled to the brim with all sorts of household goods. I usually sit on a low stool behind the counter, surrounded by jars of candies and packets of spices. Most of my customers are neighbors who have lived here for generations. We talk about family and local news while I pack their items into small bags. The building is old, and sometimes the walls need a bit of paint, but it feels like home to me. I open up early because the people around Pinari Chowk like to get their shopping done before the heat of the day sets in. I don't use any computers or fancy systems; I just keep everything in my head or write it down in a thick ledger. Sometimes the supply trucks have trouble navigating the narrow streets to get to Sarwari Gate, so I have to carry the boxes in myself. It keeps me active, I suppose. The shop doesn't have a big glass front, just a simple door and a window. It is a quiet existence, mostly, except when the festivals come around and the chowk gets crowded with people and lights. I enjoy the routine of it all.
