If you ever walk through Nala Bazar, you’ll find us at Baba Sweet Mart. It is a crowded part of town, and the noise from the market is constant. We are used to it by now. The shop isn't very large, so things can feel a bit tight when a few people come in at once. We spend most of our time in the back or behind the glass counters. There is always a lot to do, from cleaning the trays to arranging the different sweets so they look decent. We don’t use any complicated machines; most of what we do is by hand, just like it’s always been for years. The floor is old stone, and the walls have seen a lot of seasons. Nala Bazar has its own rhythm, and we are just one small part of that. Some mornings are slow, giving us time to drink tea and watch the shutters go up on the other shops. Other days, we barely have time to sit down for a minute. We don’t have a big corporate office or anything like that. It’s just us here in the bazaar. We make the sweets, we pack them in boxes, and we hand them over the counter. It’s simple work, really. People know where we are if they need something for a guest or just a snack for the afternoon. We stay open until the market starts to quiet down at night and the lights go off.
