Down here in Reiek, Mamit, life moves at its own sort of pace. Reitlang Organic Producer Company Limited started because a bunch of us realized we could probably do more together than we ever could alone. We are based over in Venglai, which is a nice enough spot for what we need to do. Most of us spent our childhoods watching our parents farm these same hills. Now, we are the ones out there in the early mornings. It gets very misty early on, and the air always smells like wet earth and green leaves. We do not have a big marketing team or anything like that. It is usually just a couple of us sitting around a worn-out wooden table figuring out who needs seeds or where the next load of produce is supposed to be going. We try to keep things organic because that is how it was always done before things got so complicated with modern farming. It takes a lot more time and sometimes the yields are not as big as the industrial stuff, but it tastes better and feels better too. Sometimes we struggle with the transport because the roads out of Mamit can be a real headache, especially when the monsoon hits us hard. But we have got a rhythm now. We share the tools and share the worries. It is a simple setup, really. No one wears a suit here. We just wear our old boots and get to work every day.
