Vishwash Kirana Stores

Vishwash Kirana Stores is situated in the middle of the busy Naroda Bazar here in Ahmedabad. We are right opposite the Hanumanji Mandir, so there are always people around from early morning until late. Running a kirana store means we deal with a lot of heavy sacks of rice, pulses, and flour. Every morning, we open up and start by dusting the jars and checking our supplies to see what's low. The market is a noisy place with lots of shouting and vehicles, but we like the energy of the crowd. We have all the basic groceries that a family needs for their daily meals. People from the nearby houses come here because they know we have the staples. It is a bit of a tight space inside with all the stock piled up, but we know where everything is kept. We don't use any modern billing systems or anything like that, just a simple notebook and a scale to weigh things out. Sometimes the temple across the street has a big event, and the whole bazar gets even more crowded than usual. We just keep serving one person at a time until the day ends. It’s a lot of standing and lifting, but that’s the nature of the work. We try to keep the prices fair so people keep coming back. It’s just a small local shop trying to provide what the community needs. There's always work to do.
