Sainath Ice Factory

Working at an ice factory means it's always a bit damp and cold inside, even when it's boiling hot outside in the GIDC. Our place is at Plot No. B-3018 in Phase-4. We spend our days making blocks of ice. It’s a pretty straightforward process, but you have to watch the machines. If something breaks, we have to fix it fast or the ice starts melting. We serve a lot of different customers, like local shops and people who need cooling for transport. The floor is usually wet, so everyone wears boots. It's a physical job, moving the heavy blocks around. We don't have much of an office. Most of the space is taken up by the freezing tanks and the storage area. It gets really busy during the summer months. That's when we're working around the clock. In the winter, things slow down a bit, and we do all the repairs we couldn't do when we were busy. It's just me and a few workers. We’ve been in this spot in Phase-4 for quite a while. People know to come here when they need ice in a hurry. We don't do any big advertising. Word of mouth usually brings people to our gate. It’s a simple business. We make ice, we sell it, and we try to keep the machinery running smooth. That's the whole story for us here at the factory. We just get through the day one block at a time.
