Akaar

Down at Satellite Road in Ahmedabad, we’ve got this space called Akaar. It’s in Arjun Tower, L. L. 28, right across from the Siddhivinayak Building. If you know Shivranjini Cross Road, you know how busy it gets around here. Our office is a bit of a refuge from all that traffic noise outside. We spend our days surrounded by drawings, models, and a whole lot of pens. It’s a small team, and we’ve been working together long enough that we don't need many words to understand what needs to be done. We do a lot of our thinking on paper before moving to the computers. The desk is always cluttered with coffee mugs and rulers. Sometimes we get stuck on a design and have to go for a walk just to clear our heads. Clients come in and we sit around the big table to talk about their ideas. It’s a very hands-on process. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that, so one of us just gets the door when the bell rings. The light in the afternoon is actually quite nice through the windows, which makes the long hours a bit better. We aren't doing anything fancy for show; we just like the work of creating shapes and spaces that make sense. It’s a simple setup, but it works for us. We just keep at it, one project at a time.
