Running a crane and transport business out of Moje Shahwadi means we spend a lot of time looking at the Narol-Sarkhej Highway. Sameer Crane & Transport Contractor is right in the thick of it, near Aarvee Denims. The highway is always roaring with traffic, and the dust settles on everything we own. We have these big cranes parked in the yard, and they look like giant yellow monsters against the sky. Most of our work is about timing and making sure the equipment is where it needs to be before the sun comes up. It’s a lot of phone calls with drivers and mechanics. There’s always someone complaining about a flat tire or an engine that won't start. We don't have a polished corporate image. Our story is basically just the grease on our palms and the miles on our trucks. It’s a stressful business because if a crane isn't working, nobody is making money. We spend our evenings checking the schedules and making sure the permits are in order. The office is just a cabin where we keep the keys and the logbooks. It’s a noisy, busy life near the highway, but it’s what we’ve been doing for years. We just take one job at a time and try to keep the wheels turning without too much trouble. It’s hard work, but it’s our life and we stay with it.
