You can find us at 409 in the Hathikhana area, which is part of the old Navo Vas section near the temple in Kalupur. Ahmedabad is very different in this part of town, with the narrow lanes and the constant sound of bells and people walking to the temple. Our office is up on the fourth floor. The stairs are a bit steep, so we usually take our time coming up in the morning. Inside, it smells like old paper and ink. We’ve got rows of cupboards filled with records from years back. It’s a tight fit when more than three people are in the main room. We do a lot of our work by hand still, even with the computers on the desks. The windows look out over the rooftops of Kalupur, which is actually a pretty nice view when the sun starts to go down. It gets very hot in April and May, and the old air conditioner hums quite loudly to keep the room bearable. We know most of the people in the building, and there’s always someone dropping in to share some news or ask a quick question. It’s a traditional kind of place, where things move at a steady pace and we don't feel the need to rush through everything. It’s been our base for a long time and we like the history of the area. It is a bit dusty and cramped, but it works for us.
